Two series of workshops take place at the beginning of the Culture Journey: The Culture Today and the Future Culture Workshops. These workshops are attended by leaders and employees who represent the breadth (e.g. regions, divisions, departments) and depth (management levels - from top management to individual contributors) of the company. When putting together the culture cohort and in the individual workshops, we recommend maximum heterogeneity to promote both diversity and the validity of the perspectives.
During the half-day workshops, we work with the participants to develop a common understanding and a common language regarding the topic of "corporate culture". We then reflect on the results of the online survey and answer the question "What does the data tell us about our culture?". In a further step, we visualize today's culture based on the participant's experiences and work out the cultural attributes of the company.
The Culture Map helps people to make the culture in their company tangible, discussable and shapeable. The method is based on Spiral Dynamics and was described by my long-standing business partner Simon Sagmeister in his book "Business Culture Design". The Culture Map groups cultural characteristics into seven colors or meme clusters. The size of each meme cluster describes the influence it has on how people perceive, feel, think and act. Every company has something of all seven meme clusters - but not the same amount of each - and therefore a specific culture.
The report contains a consolidated description (from all workshops) of today's culture, including a summary of cultural attributes. It also contains the raw data of the online survey and impressions from the workshops in form of quotes, photos and videos.
